Louis Quilico was one of the leading baritone singers of his time, a consummate artist who was greatly admired for his warmth, generosity and sense of humour. During his 45-year-long career, Quilico shared performing credits with many of opera's greatest stars. He was an ideal interpreter of the great Italian and French composers and a stalwart and formidable presence in opera houses around the world. After his retirement from The Metropolitan Opera in 1998, he continued to perform and record, most often with his wife, pianist Christina Petrowska Quilico. The duo recorded four CDs and appeared together, in concert, in New York City and elsewhere. Louis Quilico died suddenly on July 15, 2000 in Toronto, Canada. He was 75 years of age.
