Baritone Louis Quilico Dies (con't)
Closer to home, Quilico appeared regularly with the Canadian
Opera Company and the Opéra du Québec. During
Canada's centenary celebrations, he performed opposite fellow Canadians
Jon Vickers and Teresa Stratas in a lavish production of Otello
at Montréal's Place des Arts.
In 1973, Quilico joined The Metropolitan Opera
where he performed opposite Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo,
José Carreras, Joan Sutherland and Beverly Sills, among others.
On November 9, 1987, Quilico and his son Gino made opera history
when they became the first father/son team to perform at The Met.
With his retirement from The Met in 1998, Quilico
established himself in Toronto where he continued to record, perform,
and teach. His last live performance was on April 15 at a concert
presented by the Centro Culturale Italiano del Québec.
