Winners of the Christina and Louis Quilico Awards

Toronto, ON, March 17, 2003 -- The first recipients of the Christina and Louis Quilico Awards were announced at a competition held March 15 at the Heliconian Club in Toronto.

Coloratura Soprano Sinead Sugrue was awarded the first prize of $1,000. Soprano Miriam Khalil and Mezzo Soprano Ramona Carmelly received awards of $500 and $250, respectively. The contestants are all voice majors at The Glenn Gould School at The Royal Conservatory of Music where Louis Quilico held his last teaching position.

The competition was organized by Donna Sherman, Head of Voice at The Glenn Gould School, Royal Conservatory of Music. Jurors Henriette Asch and Darryl Edwards selected the finalists at a preliminary round held on March 7th. The winners were chosen by jurors Carrol Anne Curry, Stuart Hamilton and Gwenlynn Little.
