Luciano Pavarotti
"I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear of the sudden death
of my dear friend and colleague, Louis Quilico. It was a great musical
and personal pleasure for me to have appeared with him frequently
at the Met, at Covent Garden and elsewhere. Louis was an intelligent,
warm and generous artist and person. I will miss him very much, and
send my profoundest sympathy to all the family. "
Placido Domingo
"Louis Quilico was that rarity – a true Verdian baritone.
This is a voice type which never existed in abundance, but which,
nevertheless, produced some great exponents in the last century. Louis
certainly was one of those great exponents. What made him doubly cherished
was his personality – a complete professional, who was at the
same time a joy to have around in rehearsal. He was jovial and had
a wonderful, droll sense of humour. While the earthly music world
misses him, the heavenly choir has assuredly acquired a charming stellar
performer."
